Sweet and Spicy Turkey Sandwich
Ingredients (Serves 2)
12-Sweet and Spicy Turkey Sandwich
For the Sandwich:Â
- 4 slices of whole-grain or sourdough bread (or your favorite bread)
- 6-8 slices of deli turkey breast (or roasted turkey leftovers)
- 4 slices of sharp cheddar cheese or pepper jack cheese
- 1 small green apple, thinly sliced
- 2 handfuls of arugula or baby spinach
For the Sweet and Spicy Sauce:
- 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon sriracha (adjust to your spice tolerance)
- ½ teaspoon Dijon mustard
- Âź teaspoon smoked paprika (optional, for added depth)
Optional Additions:
- Pickled red onions
- Crispy bacon strips
- Avocado slices
Instructions
- Prepare the Sauce:
- In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, honey (or maple syrup), sriracha, Dijon mustard, and smoked paprika until smooth. Taste and adjust the sweetness or spiciness to your preference.
- Assemble the Sandwich: Sweet and Spicy Turkey Sandwich
- Spread a generous layer of the sweet and spicy sauce on one side of each slice of bread.
- Layer 2-3 slices of turkey breast on two slices of bread.
- Add a layer of apple slices on top of the turkey.
- Place a handful of arugula (or baby spinach) on the apples.
- Add a slice or two of cheese over the greens.
- Top with the remaining slices of bread, sauce side down.
- Toast the Sandwich:
- Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium heat.
- Spread a thin layer of butter or olive oil on the outer sides of the bread.
- Place the sandwiches in the skillet and press gently with a spatula or sandwich press.
- Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
- Serve:
- Slice the sandwich in half and serve warm.
- Pair with a side of sweet potato fries, a fresh salad, or a pickle for a complete meal.
Tips:
- For extra crunch, toast the bread slightly before assembling.
- Substitute turkey with chicken or ham if desired.
- Add a splash of balsamic glaze for more sweetness.
